BorgWarner Power Drive Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as a Sr. Calibration Engineer supporting Electric Motors at our Indiana Technical Center (ITC) in Noblesville, Indiana. 


In this role, and under direct supervision of the Engineering Manager, Test Validation Reliability the Sr. Calibration Engineer will perform motor and/or inverter controls functions to enable functional and durability testing of electric motors. This person will define inverter equipment hardware & software requirements and collaborate with the test technology team throughout the inverter integration activity, including setting up, troubleshooting, and testing the products to enable functional testing on rotating electric products 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Lead motor inverter pairing activity in support of rotating electric product development programs including but not limited to calibration process, control table development and parameter setup 

  • Own integration, troubleshooting, and setup of inverters which may be an internally developed inverter and commercially available off the shelf inverter  

  • Develop global systems and processes by interfacing with key internal stakeholders to implement standardized motor characterization/parameterization process, change control on inverter configuration and parameter files 

  • Develop software and hardware requirements as it relates to inverter for new technology required to test future products 

  • Integrate, troubleshoot, and commission electric motors and subsequent systems including control systems, inverters, rotating electric machines, and automotive driveline components to support validation testing 

  • Work with motor controls, test technology teams to support dynamometer testing as needed  


Education & Experience: 

  • BS in Engineering or related science discipline required. MS degree in electrical engineering or related preferred 

  • Minimum 5 years of high voltage High Voltage Inverters and other Vehicle Electrification components products 

  • Experience in integrating, troubleshooting, and commissioning inverters, controls, or rotating electric machines (electric motors) strongly preferred 

  • Demonstrated expertise in Matlab and/or comparable software 

  • Knowledge of machines or motors and related control concepts for electric and hybrid electric vehicle drive systems, including Field Oriented Vector Control and Space Vector Modulation techniques 

  • Knowledge of electric and hybrid electric vehicle drive systems and applications, including inverter loss modeling, optimal inverter operation for torque output based on current and voltage limitations, and inverter modulation techniques 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English required 

  • Ability to routinely work in a hands-on manner required 

  • Ability to work flexible hours to support multi-shift operation if necessary 

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 10% 

  • Ability to work under limited supervision 

  • Must be highly aware and adhere to high voltage safety standards and procedures
