How it Works

The Perfect Marriage of Innovation and Advanced Engineering.

The Cool Logic fan drive may look like a traditional clutch, but thanks to BorgWarner's long-standing transmission expertise, it's actually a wet-friction clutch that continuously varies the rotation speed of your engine's cooling fan, depending on the demands of your truck.

The Cool Logic fan drive: Compact, low profile, dual-pitch fan provides efficient cooling and more room under the hood.

Slots in the fan hub direct airflow across the housing fins for efficient cooling.

A single rear-mounted wire connection to the engine control module (ECM) reduces the chance of a snagged or broken wire.

The Cool Logic innovative dual-pitch fan has outer blades that pull air through the radiator and a unique inner blade pitched to direct cool air across the fan drive housing.

Inside the center shaft, a spring-loaded control valve vibrates open and closed hundreds of times per minute in response to ECM signals to regulate fan speed.

The control valve regulates the flow of fluid that pushes the clutch piston into rotating wet-friction clutch-pack elements, controlling the amount of fan engagement.

Cool Logic "soft" fan speed changes substantially reduce stress on the serpentine belt and components it drives. Gradual fan speed variations mean 79 percent reduction in temperature extremes and 75 percent less thermal stress - the entire cooling system lasts longer.
