FAQs

1. Can I buy a hub pulley and/or fan clutch separately versus buying an entire assembly?

No. The Cool Logic fan drive is designed as a complete system into which the hub pulley is integrated. They are not separable parts.

2. Do you have core charges?

At this time we currently do not have core charges.

3. How does this compare to an E-viscous clutch?

E-Viscous clutches are traditionally slower to engage and do not fully lock up. While at low demand, the Cool Logic fan drive spins at 200-250 rpm versus 800 rpm for a two-speed fan drive. Why use extra fuel and give up extra horsepower, even at idle?

4. Why is the up charge so expensive?

The technology utilized in the Cool Logic fan drive provides added value to your truck. Benefits include measurable fuel savings*, maintenance-free design, reduced noise and greater available horsepower† to the wheels. When compared to a standard fan drive, the savings provided by the Cool Logic fan drive surpasses/exceeds the up charge. Think of the upcharge as a down payment on future savings.

5. Will I see a fuel savings greater than those offered by using an On-Off fan or E-Viscous drive?

Yes. Fuel savings can range from 0.5 to 4.0 percent*. Your results may vary based on duty cycle, terrain, and load. We continue to investigate ways to further improve fuel savings through product innovation.

6. How long is the use-life of a Cool Logic fan drive on a truck engine?

The Cool Logic fan drive is designed to last as long as a well-maintained On-Off Fan Clutch; the Cool Logic fan drive requires no maintenance.

7. What preventive maintenance/regular checks do I need to perform to make sure the clutch is working optimally?

The Cool Logic fan drive is designed to be a maintenance-free product. No extraordinary checks or maintenance are required.

8. How expensive is a replacement assembly?

Please contact your truck's OEM Dealer for replacement pricing.

9. What tools and information do I need to diagnose a Cool Logic fan drive?

The best diagnostic tools to use include BorgWarner’s Cool Logic Diagnostic Guide (publication) and a multi-meter.

10. Which current OEM engine applications allow addition and use the Cool Logic fan drive?

See our OEM/Engine Availability Matrix.

11. Are there any Cool Logic fan drive retrofits currently available?

Please contact your OE service rep or BorgWarner Regional Sales for availability.
